Getting Started With Disc Golf

Playing disc golf is one of the most fun ways to get outside on a nice day and enjoy the outdoors. Disc golf is an inexpensive and relaxing sport that can be played alone or in groups, and most cities have a number of courses to choose from.

As disc golf is played in a manner quite similar to regular golf, it is really very easy to grasp the basics of the game. A disc golf course is made up of 18 “holes,” and based on the difficulty of each particular hole, a “par” is assigned. Each hole is started by throwing one of your frisbees down the fairway, and each hole is finished by throwing a frisbee into the receptacle at the end. Just like in regular golf, you keep track of your performance throughout the course, marking how many over or under par you finish up.

One of the great things about disc golf is that – even though it might take you a while to master the sport – you can become an adequate player really quickly. Another great thing, when it comes to disc golf, is the fact that the initial investment is not much, and you can usually play for free.

If you have ever gone to a park before where disc golf is played, you have probably seen someone lugging around a huge bag that is packed full of frisbees. If you become a serious enthusiast, you may want to pick up a couple extra frisbees, but when you are starting out, there is no need to have more than just a few! When you first get started with disc golf, the main thing you will need is a “driver,” a mid-range frisbee, and a “putter.” With the driver, you will be able to throw the frisbee a long way down the fairway; with the mid-range frisbee, you will be able to hit your “approach” shots; with your putter, you will have a heavier frisbee that is good for when you are up close trying to finish off a hole.

After you have purchased this simple, basic equipment, you will be able to grab a water bottle and hit the disc golf course; in no time at all, you will be a pretty decent player, and will be able to enjoy your time outdoors.
